About the artwork
Uncle Load is inspired by watching my father carry the responsibilities of manhood over the years. Beyond financial responsibility, I became aware of the emotional weight he carried silently and his inability to fully release or regulate it. Much of that tension remained unspoken, yet visible through posture, movement, and physical presence. The figure in the painting reflects this condition through a distorted and strained gesture that suggests both endurance and exhaustion. Though the body appears burdened, it still stands. The work explores how emotional pressure slowly reveals itself through the human figure, even when words fail. The colour palette contrasts the heaviness of the posture with vibrant energy. Yellows beneath the feet, oranges around the legs, and layered reds and purples move throughout the surface, allowing the painting to remain alive despite the weight it carries. While the figure attempts to contain itself, the body ultimately speaks what the mouth does not.
