About the artwork

Roots Through Concrete depicts a young plant breaking through cracked concrete — life insisting on existing despite harsh conditions. Below the surface, its roots become human faces: generations whose struggles and histories remain hidden beneath modern development. The city skyline behind it suggests progress and ambition, but the cracked earth hints at the cost of unchecked growth — the tension between development and disconnection from nature and our own roots. The faces symbolize ancestry and the unseen people who sustain the future; just as a tree cannot survive without roots, humanity cannot build sustainably while ignoring what holds it together. The piece is a reminder that sustainable futures come not just from technology or architecture, but from remembering where we come from.
