About the artwork

This painting tells the story of everyday people in a local market whose hard work helps feed the community. The traders, farmers, and buyers are shown interacting through selling, buying, lifting, and arranging farm produce. The work focuses on ordinary people whose daily efforts are often overlooked but are important to society. How it Relates to Sustainability... The painting reflects sustainability through local farming and market systems that support community living. The exchange of local food products shows a cycle of survival and support that reduces waste and encourages dependence on locally available resources. It also highlights cooperation and shared responsibility within the community. Every day, many people come from farms to the market to sell their farm products such as vegetables, yam, fruits, grains, and other food items. Most people only see the finished products displayed for sale, but they do not see the hard work, sacrifices, and challenges behind bringing those products to them. Farmers wake up very early, sometimes before sunrise, to work on their farms. They face difficult weather conditions, long hours of labour, transportation challenges, and the stress of carrying their goods from far places to the market. Some travel long distances just to make sure people have fresh and affordable food. Instead of complaining about prices, we should appreciate the effort, time, and energy they put into providing for our daily needs. Their work contributes greatly to the growth and survival of our communities. A little kindness, respect, and understanding towards them can make a big difference.
