Biography
Utubor Shadrach Melvin is a Nigerian painter working in expressive figurative art. He holds an ND in Art and Design and an HND in Painting from Yaba College of Technology.
Mentored by Edosa Oguigo, his work explores emotion, movement, and the relationship between the physical and spiritual.
Artist Statement
"I paint the moments we all recognize but rarely stop to notice, the ones we feel deeply but struggle to put into words."
I want my work to be known for its ability to capture human presence through movement, gesture, and emotion. I am interested in the quiet, everyday moments that often go unnoticed, especially within my Nigerian context, and how they reveal deeper layers of resilience, identity, and connection.
Through expressive brushwork and figurative painting, I want viewers to feel the energy within the work before they even try to understand it. More than anything, I want my paintings to hold a sense of life in them—something that feels familiar, human, and emotionally present.
