TUNDE BAKARE

Biography

Tunde Bakare (b. 1998) graduates from Yaba College of Technology in 2025. He was born in Surulere and has painted the neighborhood since he was a teenager.

He was a finalist for the Rele Arts Foundation Young Contemporary Prize in 2024 and has shown work at Art X Lagos.

Artist Statement

"I paint what I see every day—the market, the traffic, people going about their business. That's enough."

The 'Lagos Light' series is about the late afternoon, when the light changes and everything looks different for about an hour. I paint outside first, then finish in the studio.
